MRC Cares Global Food Drive Donates More Than 13 Metric Tonnes Of Food For Local Communities

Jan 5 2012

Houston, TX – January 5, 2012 – As a family of companies, MRC employees donated over 13 metric tonnes of food to local communities on four different continents as part of the 2011 MRC Cares Global Food Drive. The event ran from late November through late December and yielded 28,846 pounds of food worldwide.

As part of our commitment to our core value of Community and Charity Involvement, this year, MRC launched the MRC Cares Global Food Drive. This annual event encourages all of MRC's 400 global service locations to host a food drive for the benefit of their local food bank or pantry. Employees held raffles, collected canned goods and rallied together to support their charity.

"As we have grown, so has our responsibility to the communities where we live and work," Andrew R. Lane, MRC Chairman, President & CEO said. "Thanks to MRC's global reach, the compassion we demonstrate can be felt around the globe."

The MRC Cares Global Food Drive is not the only way MRC is reaching out to local communities, the MRC Foundation gives monetary donations to charitable organizations, including education, health and human services, arts and humanities and civic projects nominated by MRC employees. In 2011, The MRC Foundation donated more than $100,000 to worthy causes, not including additional corporate giving totaling over $50,000.

MRC employees also go out of their way to personally leave their mark on their world, for example, in 2011 MRC employees Katie Cook and Kathy Washington, Tulsa OK, led a company-wide effort which raised more than $21,000 to benefit the American Heart Association and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada through the sale of over 1,100 company cookbooks, A Taste of MRC – 90 years of Tradition. MRC was proud to donate the $15,000 in production and shipping costs that enabled every dollar personally contributed by MRC employees to go directly to the fight against heart disease.
